Our Collected Networking Wisdom

As we’ve pushed Chicago Solutions to greater heights, we’ve learned a lot about the importance of networking. We’re always excited to connect with new people, because we know how impactful the bonds we create can be. If you want to reap the rewards of networking but aren’t sure where to start, we’re happy to share a few of the key techniques that fuel our efforts:

• Be Yourself: Of course it’s important to discuss business matters when networking, but it’s also essential to let your unique personality show. Flashing a warm smile is a big part of this, because you want potential contacts to see that your passion for what you do is genuine. Being your natural self is the best way to make others feel welcome, too.

• Listen Well: If you want people to remember you in a positive light, it’s best to let them do most of the talking. This is perhaps the key lesson we’ve learned through our Chicago Solutions networking efforts. We ask lots of open-ended questions so we can gather as much info as possible and keep discussions going in the right direction.

• Follow Up: You can’t let a new connection get stale. When we add to our contact lists, we make sure to reach out to people within a day or two of our first meeting. From there, regular check-ins become the rule.
